superf{\'{\i}}cie Aster GDEM foram utilizados neste trabalho.
ABSTRACT: This article presents TerraHidro system aiming at
delimiting the drainage networks of the Northeast region of Brazil
and identifying the areas with greatest potential for flooding in
the Brazilian semi-arid region. TerraHidro is a system for
processing distributed hydrological models and it is being
developed at the Image Processing Division (DPI) of the National
Institute for Space Research (INPE). The main purpose of this work
is to provide a set of basic information about superficial
drainage and delineation of watersheds for experts in water
resources, climate change and others thus allowing them to work in
large geographic regions without having to edit this information
by hand. Only residual manual editing work must be done by
specialists to ensure accuracy in all drainage segments. In
addition, the application Height Above to the Nearest Drainage
(HAND) identifies the potential flood areas, calculating the
elevation difference between each point of the grid and its
nearest neighbor in the drainage. T h e proximity is given by the
shortest distance of flow paths. Aster GDEM surface models were
used in this work.",
